It will probably take the end of the world to awaken the concience of our society, towards their responsibility to mother earth. I think the solutiion like in many problems lies in the problem itself, and the problem here is us...
Just the other day, someone knocked on my door and explained how our environment is being depleted of all the important flora and fauna by uncontrolled human intervention. I decided to do my bit by enrolling as a volunteer to support the cause of protecting the environment, and am sincerely hoping to partcipate in whatever way its required to make this world a better place for everyone. I see there are so many ways by which each one of us, can chip in. Say by just not using a shower to bathe you save enough water that can help some more plants grow. By turning off the light when not in use you could save enough coal being burnt and help lowering some carbon emmisions. Planting trees is also another healthy way of giving back to nature what we have indiscriminately taken away.
Taking it as a problem for only governments and NGO’s to solve is not really the way, its for each one of us to think about and proactively do our bits, and I am sure we will be able to byte into the problem.
